Photoshop Camera App

Adobe, the American software giant behind Photoshop and Acrobat, has finished its work on a new smartphone app called Photoshop Camera, and as of today, it can be downloaded from Apple Store and Google Play.

However, this free app supports only recent Galaxy, Pixel and OnePlus models. The app uses Adobe’s Sensei technology to identify scenes in a photo (like the sky) and apply filters to add a touch of creativity to your smartphone photographs.

Another novelty from Adobe is the update of its Photoshop app for iPad with Curves and Pencil Pressure Sensitivity features.

Competition with social apps

The real challenge with this app for Adobe will be getting people to use its app instead of the numerous filters available inside the social apps such as Instagram and Snapchat.

The team at Adobe claims that they don’t see themselves in competition with social apps or OS camera apps.

“In the future, you can expect to see Adobe work on partnerships to get its filters inside of other apps, perhaps even built into some phones’ native cameras so that Adobe’s magic lights up in those environments as well,” said Abhay Parasnis, Adobe CTO.

Path to new customers

After you open the app, you will discover numerous filter options such as Cosmos, Portrait, Pop Art, Spectrum and more.
Adobe will add more filters in the future, some of which will come in partnership with specific artists and creators. The app also comes with a dedicated Lens library allowing users to download more filters. Photoshop Camera app also enables users do some basic editing such as contrast, brightness adjustment, shadow, saturation etc.
Adobe’s main objective is to introduce people to its ecosystem through smaller, less intimidating apps, in the hopes of eventually converting some of the to its paid professional tools.

In order to grab the attention of younger audience, Adobe is partnering with the pop-star Billie Eilish to create limited-edition lenses inspired by her songs and music videos.
